Commission Prices and FAQ

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 3, 2008, 1:44 PM
The time has come for an FAQ!
Read on if you'd like to know more..

If you hadn't already guessed, I'm open to commissions! You can commission me to create practically anything. My speciality is character design and figurative studies. I also have a thing for machinery. Don't feel limited by my preferences, if you like my style and have something different in mind I'll be happy to discuss your ideas.

Digital vs Traditional and Shipping

I deal mainly in digital art these days, but I can be persuaded to do a traditional piece if that's your preference.
As a rule digital images will cost less; they may be emailed as a file or shipped as a print.

Traditional pieces are an original work, and will need to be shipped (preferably under recorded delivery as they won't be replaceable like a print!). Also they require materials like paint/canvas paper etc. For these reasons they will always cost more.

Please email me about shipping costs when commissioning me as they will vary depending on your country.

Pricing examples:

All prices are negotiable. These following prices are a guide for digital commissions, and only apply to commissions intended for personal use only.
Please note: if you would like to commission me for a commercial project, prices will be increased accordingly- please email me for more information.

Black and white inked drawing:
£25 ($49)

Simple colour image, no background:
£50 ($98)

Colour image with simple background, some details:
£85 ($167)

Highly finished detailed colour image, simple background
£150 ($295)

Very highly finished/complex piece:
£300 ($590)

As I mentioned earlier, you can commission me to create practically anything. However, this does not mean I am obligated to accept every commission that comes my way.

Subjects I will NOT accept:

:bulletgreen: Anything causing a copyright issue, such as fanart or copyrighted characters used commercially. Full written consent of the copyright owners would be an acceptable way of bypassing this rule. Fanart commissions are only acceptable if they are for personal, non-commercial use.

:bulletgreen: anything overly pornographic (I don't mind drawing something kinky/sexy. But nothing too extreme. Please discuss what you want and I'll let you know if it crosses my boundaries).

:bulletgreen: Anything just plain morally wrong.

Not wanting to dissuade anyone here, I'm a very liberal person and unless you're a gibbering psychopath I will most likely accept your ideas :D

Copyrights

:bulletgreen:All commissioned pieces may not be reproduced or redistributed without my consent.

:bulletgreen:I retain full copyright to all images created, unless:

An image I create contains characters/concepts invented by the client or someone other than myself. In this case copyright of the image will be shared. This means neither myself nor the client may reproduce/redistribute the image without full written consent of the respective owners.

:bulletgreen: Copyright has been bought by the client (this usually applies to commercial projects).

Payment

I'm a Brit and I deal in British Pounds £. My prices are also listed in American Dollars $.
If this confuses you or you want to know the equivalent in your own currency, there are plenty of currency converters available on the web: [link] [link]

Preffered payment method: Paypal
my Paypal email is: freyahorn@hotmail.co.uk
If you do not have Paypal, an alternative method of payment may be arranged. Paypal is quick, easy and safe though :)

All commissions and prices are negotiable. If you have any further questions, the best way to contact me is by email: freyahorn@hotmail.co.uk

I think that's about everything..thanks for reading!

With all my respect for your art and your skills, and I'm seriously having respect, but - and this is a serious and objective question - what makes this art worth 590 bucks?

Granted, the amount of effort and time you spend on these should not be sold for the price of a little scribble, of course. But... $590? Will you not have a hard time selling these?

I think you misunderstand. These are just examples of the level of quality for commissions, not prints. If people can't afford the higher end, they'll go for something less detailed, and therefore cheaper.

if you take a look at how fees are calculated by other illustrators, you'll realise Im charging a very low amount. Less than minimum wage infact.
If you cant afford a full commission you could consider a sketch/black and white image. £25 isn't very much to ask, and a sketch would be even cheaper.

Hm... I see. I guess the real expensive ones are for commercial use (with your permission given) too?

I guess I could see that making sense.

Sounds fair to moi. Defo the kinda prices I would use especially having it in pounds.

I always found abit of pain to do commissions in dollars.....tis close to peanuts. :/

Hope you are well pet? Haven't spoken to ya in awhile!

lol, nope I havent listed commercial prices. Suffice to say, once your art is marketed/published you get paid a fair bit more :giggle: just think how much money companies make from selling magazines/books or advertising..how do you think professional artists pay their bills?!
The highest priced commissions here are for very detailed large paintings with lots of complex elements. And like I mentioned several times, prices are negotiable, so if you cant afford what's listed..even the cheapest images listed for £25.. I can still produce something for you, it just won't be as detailed.
