All of this stuff is so kind and really puts a smile on my otherwise miserable face Smile
So what have I missed here on DA? I feel pretty out of the loop on here, so much has changed, and I don't really use the mobile app. What's new? Are llamas still in? chasing llama again

Krampus Features

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 29, 2015, 8:41 AM

Happy Holidays everyone, hope you've had a nice break so far :merry christmas:

So...Krampus. I just can't get enough of the horny bugger. (Probably fuelled by reading this fantastic book by Brom, which I highly recommend btw).

This Christmas seems to have seen an influx of Krampus hype, which for me was a breath of fresh air. The cheesy fakeness of Christmas that used to irk me has lessened, the much needed dark edges are back and it feels like this time of year is almost as cool as Halloween now (I haven't seen the Krampus horror movie, looks ridiculous, but might give it a watch anyway because... why the heck not?).

Krampusnacht has been and gone, but better late than never: here's this month's features. I hope you've all been good...

Hey guys,

I see there have been a lot of changes to DA again. I think many of you also signed up to be #BetaTesters recently, right? What do you think of the new Toolbar/Browsing and Watch system etc?

Anyway, the main thing I wanted to shout about this month is- I took the plunge and set up a Patreon for RetroBlade:

If you are enjoying the comic, (which is available to read for free here) maybe you'll be interested- I'm offering some exclusive rewards, and hoping to add even more stuff soon!
Also the Prologue (plus extras) is now available as a HD Download on Gumroad, so there's that option for instant gratification reading as well :la:

Either way please take a look, share it with any nerdy friends that may also enjoy science fantasy time-travel stories and the like, and if you can, please consider supporting salmon heart bullet

DeviantArtist Questionnaire

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 8, 2015, 1:10 PM

Sooo, DA is 15 today
I figured I'd jump on this birthday questionaire bandwagon thing. It looks like fun!
And also solves the problem of not knowing what to update my journal with next

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Since February 2006. 9½ years.

What does your username mean?
It was inspired by this graphic novel:

I'm a bit of a Durham Red fan :B
I've been meaning to change my username for years, but I have a slight... problem with picking names.

Describe yourself in three words.
Scullion. Rampalian. Fustilarian.

Are you left or right handed?
Right Handed most the time

What was your first deviation?
Tiger by Vermin-Star
Realism and traditional media, ugggh.

What is your favourite type of art to create?
I guess mostly character art.
I like creating art that has a purpose beyond just decoration. Things that can bring an idea or story to life.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Not so sure about styles, but I'd love to be better at technical drawing and vehicles. Sometimes I can do them but it takes me a tremendous amount of energy and time...

What was your first favourite?
SHURIKEN: vehicle concept 2of3 by HOON
Yep...a technical drawing of a vehicle! Damn.
(HOON seems to have disappeared, wish he was still active on DA :()

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Erm...*looks through favourites* ah, er...mostly skillfully executed stuff that inspires me, lots of characters, but there's some random eye candy and just funny stuff that might resonate with me in some way at the time.
Also, an unusual amount of skinny emo boys with long hair.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Ye gods, there's no straight answer to that.
I can't pick one, but here are a few of the usual suspects:
:iconnebezial: :iconhoon: :iconwen-m: :icongorrem: :iconimson: :iconfabiolistrani: :icontracyjb: :iconsummerset: :iconfeimo: :iconnna: :iconjenzee: :iconramida-r: :iconnicholaskole: :iconhideyoshi: :iconhellcorpceo: :iconbrosa:

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Hmmz, I've already met a few or already knew them off DA, but it would be cool to meet any that I chat with or am online friends with really. cooley, Oteibilitz, enistoja47ness and Nightmare-Bug seem cool :)

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
This sounds hella cheesy, but every encouraging comment I've had here has impacted my life and has helped me to stay motivated. Also, a lot of the amazing art I've seen on the site has inspired me to create and do things I may not otherwise have done.

What are your preferred tools to create art?
Once you go Cintiq, you never go back. It's like getting your first dishwasher.

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
I have this idealistic view in my minds eye of painting outside, surrounded by nature, trees, birds, flowers and dappled sunlight shining through the canopy. There's butterflies and those little floaty fluffy seed things like the forest in the start of Legend (the film).
In reality, I'm usually holed up in a dark and dingy (wo)man-cave with computers, wires, nerdy figurines, empty mugs, biscuit crumbs and cat hair everywhere.

The Workstation 2 by Jujika

Yep, exactly like this!* (*almost).
I can work anywhere my workstation is really. I kinda have to. But I do find it helps to change things up a bit from time to time.

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
 Mudkip icon
Actually, no. The best memories are from the goode olde dayes when all my uni friends were active on here, and the site was smaller and closer knit.
Things change...there are good things now too...
but not as good as in my day. :shakecane:

 Yay for procrastination! #DeviantArtistQuestionnaire

I'm baaaaack!

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 3, 2015, 3:18 PM

Back from vacations! (or holidays if, like me, you're from a tiny isle known as the UK :) )
It was...eventful. It was really nice to be back, but so much stuff happened and the people I love all seem so...vulnerable. I know I'm not solely responsible for their wellbeing, but it's hard not to think I could help them better if I was living closer.

I didn't really get much of a break tbh, there was some really terrible stuff that happened, my best friends' dad died very suddenly while I was staying at her house (literally, one moment he was fine, next moment- bam), and all the holiday plans got cancelled as a result. I'm still pretty shocked by it all since I've known the family for many years and their house was like a second home to me growing up, it's really awful but at the same time weird that I was fated to be there when it happened.
I've spent the past week with the family helping them with arrangements, getting shopping, and trying to offer some moral support during this difficult time.

My own family is...more than a little bit dysfunctional. Some drama kicked off there too while I was visiting, but nothing I wasn't already expecting and I dealt with it like a baws (though I do say so myself). My dad is awesome though. He looked really dapper at his 80th party.
I got home just in time to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary with my fantastic husband...all the drama and stress melted away when I got home and he's so supporting and fantastic, I know I can deal with all the shit life throws at me so long as I have him by my side. <3

Anyway ART! Yeah, I finished illustrating the whole childrens' book!

I'll be promoting the crap out of it as soon as I get a spare moment. I'm really chuffed with how it came out in print, looks way better than I was expecting, the colours were beautiful. I used Blurb to print the prototype, I can recommend them: (Im not affiliated honest, was just genuinely impressed by the print quality).

This is the website for the book:
I'll be updating it with more info veeery soon.

Also, I somehow managed to make enough comic pages to cover my absence, and todays' page:… but now my buffer is totally depleted so I'll be working hard on building it up again. Damn comic buffers never last.

***EDIT*** check out this sweet review of RetroBlade!! There's a comparison to Dune, and some really interesting scientific speculation and theory:

That's about it, peace out y'all!

Whip it gooood

Journal Entry: Fri May 22, 2015, 9:16 PM

I got tired of the last journal so thought it was time for a change

What do you guys think of the comic so far? I know it's just the first 12 pages, but it should be enough to get an idea? Hope you're enjoying it (if you've gone to check it out. If not- go check it out!

I'm really swamped with work at the moment, I have loads to finish in preparation for a trip to the UK to visit my family and friends there, so I'm banging out illustrations for the ebook I'm working on. It's just a prototype at present, but I wanted something tangible to give my dad for his 80th birthday, since it's his story and all... (I can't believe my dad is turning 80. It's surreal).

When I get a chance I will upload them here too, it's quite a different style to my usual one I think.
Here are the characters from the story:

I'm also working on a website for it, and a cover image for the Facebook page which will go live as soon as that's done.
I also need to build up the comic buffer again because it's already running out and I don't have enough to cover my ass while I'm away

I'm sure I will get everything done in plenty of time and not end up pulling a string of all nighters, weeping silently into the pop up error messages as Flash crashes for the 5000000th time :olol:

Oh one last thing- I moved the webcomics I was featuring to their own special section on my profile. So, note me if you want yours featured there.

Feedback, 100k

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 12, 2015, 2:54 PM

First of all, I know it's only page views, who cares right?
But I was really not prepared and haven't had time to put anything together or do a Kiriban or what have you.

Could this come at a more inconvenient time?! Really, how inconsiderate of you all to view my page so much when I'm too busy to commemorate the numerical milestone properly! How rude guys!

:tehe3d: Tehe 3D 50x50 derp
Kidding of course, I'm so disgustingly chuffed really, thanks everyone, thank you DA!

It's good to know people are still looking at my page here and stopping by and I'm really grateful for it, especially since the site seemed to be dying not so long ago. I guess it's picked up!

Anyway, enough obnoxious gloating. I'll post something up soon.

I've had feedback from various friends and proof-readers about the comic launch pages. What's interesting is that everyone has a completely different take on things and I love how we all project our own interests, perceptions and ideas into the things we read/watch/view etc.
I hope it's a good sign anyway, it was overwhelmingly positive too but I'm allowing for bias there since these are all friends and people I know well <3 It's still very early days and perhaps once things kick off a bit more people will have more of an idea of the direction it's heading in. Either way, it's been really great to hear others opinions of it so far.

I'll be excited to hear what you guys think about it too once it goes live. Just 5 days left! :D

Look at the kitties!! This little guy (on the left) is going to be our second cat! ^^
We'll be collecting him as soon as he's grown enough. He's still super tiny and needs time with his mum and litter mates to grow and learn.
We're thinking of calling him Namco, to match our other cat, Konami. Or possibly Atari. (Sega seemed too far a stretch :D). What do you think?

MCM and devil cats

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 22, 2015, 7:34 AM

Hey guys,

I figured it was time for a 2015 journal.
Also, my premium membership is due to run out at any moment

3096583ec93df2eedfc64fece6008aa1a3168ffbe46fa024fc by Vermin-Star

Anyway, I'll just keep updating here regularly and try to prepare everything for the webcomic launch!

Which reminds me- has anyone here been to London MCM as an exhibitor? The Comic village area for indies? Any advice welcome since I'm a noob with these things and need to start preparing (even though it's not until October!).

I'll admit, the idea of having a table at a comic con terrifies me.
It's not like I've never exhibited before. I think it's because this is ALL MINE PRECIOUSSS and not just work I've done for a company...

But I'm sure it will all be fine. I have the coolest friends ever that are going to cosplay some of my characters :omgomg: It's going to be amazeballs. :omgomg::omgomg:

Excitement building
:omgomg::omgnoes: :omgomg:

In the meantime, I've got my work cut out- and I'd be beavering away on it more if it wasn't for this little devil:

Here she is, entertained by the fish for 10 seconds or so.

Sam 1610 by Vermin-Star
<Her name is Konami.>

She's a Burmilla. We got her a couple of years ago (she's nearly 3 now).
She's totes adorable, but I have to work on my computer at home during the day and she makes it near impossible at times.

We're considering getting a second cat to entertain her- but I foresee one of those endless loops happening where we just end up with a mountain of cats.

Not necessarily a bad thing...

Yuletide Feature Time

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 24, 2014, 10:16 AM

Happy Christmas/Yule/Krampus/New Year and anything else you may celebrate at this time of year :D

Here's a silly joke page I revamped with a bit of a seasonal twang:
Skye-Pie XMAS2 by Vermin-Star

This was (originally) an early test page. I promise the actual comic will be better looking than this when it launches ^^;

Comics are hard. (who knew?) I have so much respect for people that make comics well. It's hard, people.

And on that note...

Features by Vermin-Star

In the spirit of Christmassy things, I thought I'd feature some awesome webcomics I discovered this year, that have inspired me. There are many, but here are a few I watch on DA that are fantastic and in my opinion, deserve more views and attention:

I got fed up waiting for Orion to launch so I thought I'd update my journal instead >.< damn yoooooou wiiiinds and vaaaalves :shakefist:

Anyway. December already- wow. Where has this year gone? Why is time speeding up?! It's not me getting older dammit. It's the rapture, or time dilation or something.

So it looks like that whole Christmas thing is rolling round again, which got me thinking about the ebook project I've had on the back-burner while focusing on my comic.
But here it is, and it's still chugging along:

Jillchild Promo by Vermin-Star
It's a children's book written by my dad, which I'm adapting into an interactive ebook and intend to release on the App store by next Christmas.
I'll post up some progress shots here and on my Tumblr as I go.
So that's 2015 all planned out! What could possibly go wrong...

Boo it looks like Orion won't launch today after all.
Oh well...

Hey y'all

Lookit mah flap tootin' bananas!

Sorry, banners. I'm easily excitable. This is a big milestone for me.
I've uploaded the bigger ones as deviations, so I thought I'd use this journal to show the rest.
I'm having ridiculous amounts of fun with this, which leads me to wonder- why the hell didn't I do this sooner?! why did I spend years drawing other peoples dreams instead of my own? WHY??

Oh yeah, that whole paying bills and eating thing. Lawl. How could I forget. Cry run

another banner, woo!

I can't wait to show you guys more...argh! The suspense! It's worse than signing an NDA at a games company >.<

Mario Kart Bananas

Eureka moment!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 10, 2014, 12:55 PM

Hey guys!

Exciting times- I've finally come up with a name for my comic!! OMG!!!! OMG

No really, this was the hardest part of the entire process XD Naming things has always been a torturous process for me. I'm one of those people that will get stuck for HOURS at the beginning of a game, trying to suss out the ultimate name for my character. And finding the perfect name for this comic, something that has grown and evolved so much over time, seemed like an impossible task. Every time I had a eureka moment and thought this is the one! it turned out some other bastard had snapped it up. (I'm looking at YOU, Marvel!!).

I have no idea how people name their own children. If it's anything like as hard I'm amazed we don't have more people walking around with numbers to identify themselves.

SO behold: RetroBlade!

Sounds cheesy huh? Well trust me on this, it works. It's just right! Cheese is gooooood. :cheese:

Even more exciting- my bestie and PR Guru has booted me up the backside sufficiently to make us start promoting it all...already!!! We're not ready for launch, and knowing how much of a neurotic perfectionist I can be about such things, I'm not sure I will ever feel ready- but going on how things are progressing and how many pages I have so far, it looks like Spring 2015 is a reasonable deadline to set. So stay tuned, and in the meantime please like and follow us on any (or all!) of the following:

You'll be the first to know when we launch. And, if you follow my Art Tumblr, you'll get behind the scenes stuff too. Bonus!

Thanks for watching Llama Emoji-10 (Shy) [V1]

-Achievement unlocked- duh, I did stuff

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 10, 2014, 8:06 PM

I'm back from my trip to England (my home country) and wow.

It was great to see everyone and catch up and remember how the culture and stuff is over weird how I always manage to forget how it feels.
Also, I can now understand why packing flip flops instead of wellies was a bit...optimistic. :rain: Especially considering much of it was spent in a field, setting up and celebrating an alternative Steampunk/Zelda/Indian themed hand-fasting (which was as awesome as it sounds).

It's been so good to talk to people in my own language with slang and everything, and to realise that no, I'm not a freak (or at least not in the bad way), and my Spanish really isn't as bad as I think it is. It's always going to be lacking compared to native speakers of course. But that's OK, because this place isn't our forever home anyway.
(At least, I hope not, because I really don't suit flip flops. I'm like a perpetual goth in hot weather here).

Tea Tea Tea

This whole year has been a bit of a blur. The last few days I've had some time to think and reflect on everything I've achieved so far, and also to look back and take stock of all the work I've done, not just for my most recent game project Norse Noir, but also my Comic (name pending), my Interactive Ebook project, and Nihilumbra, a game I worked on before all that.

In the past few years I've worked as a Character Artist and Animator for 2 games. The animation part was relatively new, so I was learning a lot of new skills, and the work was quite challenging. I've been so busy making said artwork, working round the clock a lot of the time (really have to stop doing that), that I barely even had chance to look at it once it was done... or just sit back and smell the coffee as it were.

I've been given permission to upload work for both games projects, and thus far have only had time to throw the odd thing up here and there (and nothing from Nihilumbra yet since it was all created on my old PC, which I've only just had time to excavate), so this week I will be posting up as much as I can find worthy of posting up.

I really hope you guys enjoy looking at the things at least as much as I enjoyed creating the things. Or, considering how frustrating frame animation can be at times... more. Much more :)

Here's some links for your enjoyment:

:bulletpurple: Nihilumbra for iOS (Also available on Steam, and soon Android, Mac, Linux, Wii U...the list is endless it seems).
:bulletpurple: Beautifun Games Blog Which I designed- including the fabulous He-man Icon that is still there, lol!
:bulletorange: Norse Noir Kickstarter
:bulletorange: Hilarious video of me speaking about the Norse Noir Art process (if anyone wants to hear my goofy accent in poor sound quality!).

I'm dedicating the remaining dregs of this year to my original (true) goals and those elusive New Year's Resolutions I made. Will I still make it? Probably not this year, at least. But Imma try.

Thanks for watching

Here's a wee silly preview of what's to come:

I'll be posting up more Norse Noir Concept Art and possibly some Animated Sprites here in the near future- stay tuned!

Until then, I'm taking a well earned rest and returning to the motherland to visit friends and family in England! I'm super excited because I haven't been back to my home country during summer for a loooong time, and it will be great to see it in a better light (Christmas in the UK is fun but also very cold and wet and grey). It's going to be awesome catching up with people I have missed soooo much. And eating chips with vinegar. And getting super fat on pukka pies, Cadbury's chocolate, and deep fried creme eggs (kidding on that last one...maybe).

I'm also a bit worried that it will be really cold compared to here...but then I have to remind myself I lived in Norway for years. Funny how fast the body adapts to different weather conditions and stuff...

ANYWAY, thanks for watching, pls back us!! Love you all :bademoticon:

This Whole Motion Books Thing

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 27, 2014, 5:43 AM

So what's all this nonsense about Motion Comics?

Are they going to be The Next Big Thing or is this all a bunch of over-hyped fluff? Llama Emoji-03 (Sparkles) [V1]

If you have an existing Comic, would you adapt it into one?
I know Marvel have been using similar motion techniques for a while now so it's nothing particularly groundbreaking, but nice as a tool available to Deviants, no?

I'm thinking they would suit Graphic Novels more than an ongoing Comic, simply because of the sheer extra workload involved...

Personally, I think they're a promising medium and I will probably experiment with something along those lines at some point, but heck- making a normal stationary comic is sapping ALL my free time and energy these days, so I can't really imagine animating every page too. But it does seem like an interesting way to bring your stories to life, and I LOVE the ability to add sound and music.

I already have a list of songs I listen to as a soundtrack of sorts, to help inspire me in the right way for each scene I'm drawing. If it weren't for copyright issues it would be SO COOL to be able to use these as background music in a Motion Comic...

However, I'm unsure if Motion Comics are a bit distracting from reading a story. Things like panel size/placement affecting timing, being able to view a whole page at once, re-reading bit's at your leisure...time becomes space in traditional Comics and adding real time elements seems to break that a bit.

The only kinds of motion I've seen work well in this respect (without breaking the spacial pacing of a comic page) are animated gif pages like this and this.

If you add much more motion than that, I'm not sure if they can really be called Comics anymore or have become... something elsePhilip Fry (I'm not sure if) [V2]

Anywho, in other news....I'm thinking of bringing back Sketch of the Week. Some of my old watchers may remember it :)
What do you guys think? Would you be interested in taking part?

Tumblr and New Game!

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 6, 2014, 3:50 PM

'Sup guys,

So, I decided to jump on the Tumblr bandwagon since every artist here seems to be on there, and who knew, it's actually pretty cool.

I'll be using it to upload sketchy stuff and work in progress things (at least that's the plan) so if you want some behind the scenes stuff and hopefully more regular updates go check it out, I'd really appreciate some followers on there!

In other news, I'm currently working on a new indie game project called Norse Noir. It's a point and click adventure game set in 1920's America with a film Noir feel to it, yet it's based around Norse Gods, so lots of funny twists involved. It's been lots of fun to work on so far and I'm excited to see how it's progressing, also pretty cool to do some more animation work.

If you'd like to know more or get regular updates, you can follow us on Twitter or give us a like on Facebook. Heck, we even have a Google+ account. So far, Facebook is winning though :eager:

Because of this I have very little time for my comic or ebook projects lately, but I am still trying to keep them going on the back burner, more updates coming soon.

I'd like to thank everyone who has watched me on here and commented or favourited any of my work, your support and encouragement is appreciated more than I can express.
If it wasn't for the amazing support I've had on this site over the years I may have given up completely during the tougher times. It's so easy to compare yourself to others and feel inadequate, especially with creative stuff, all a learning experience I know, but still I have neurotic tendencies and without encouragement I tend to get easily disheartened.

So thanks everyone, and despite how alluring Tumblr seems to be, I will definitely be remaining on DA and updating here too. <3

:bulletorange: I will feature one of your characters. I'll also tell you what I like about them. (Don't have an OC? Then I'll choose a piece of art).

:bulletorange: If you comment, please do the same feature in your journal!

The idea of this is not just to get a free feature, it is to spread the shiny arts around for everyone! :la:

Space Invader by Retrospacelove  Zathyl 4-D3
Behold: her tentacle hands! Her toothy waistcoat! Her acid green locks! Her trousersTM and boots that would put any respectable cyber goth to shame...
Her that THREE belly buttons? My word. Well, what can I say...:iconaliensguyplz:
But yeah, that waistcoat is beast. The colours and weird plant life brought my attention to this one. Bizarre in a good way.

Ink final Character Sheet by ebony-chan  Ink.
I love this guy. He doesn't just transform in a typical werewolf kind of way, oh no. He takes that transformation shizz seriously. You do not want to meet this dude at the wrong time of the month.
Also, he's a freaking werebear, not a werewolf, which is indeed rather refreshing. Extra points for those spiffy markings.

<da:thumb id="379529019"/>Ellen Olivia MacNamara.

Anyone that knows me on any level knows that I have a bit of a...weakness for hobbits. And this is a space hobbit. Yes, you read that right- a space hobbit. Seriously, what's not to love?
Yeah so she's a genetically modified hobbit that started out human, but still super cute immho.

This way hobbitses....

Iona Liandri by mptk421  Iona Liandri.

I don't know too much about her other than that she appears to be out to decapitate mountains  Loved that description. Poor mountains. They have feelings too.
She's sporting an almost perfect balance between military fantasy ninjaism. Badass.

more pretty by Nighzmarquls  'Pretty'
Or possibly, no name? She...(it?) caught my eye with the, er, eye catching, well, eye. And other things. But yes, glowy eyes are glowy. Also, for a 3D render, this looks very much alive- many 3D renders I have seen have a dead look to them. Considering it's such an unusual looking creature, it also looks quite believable. I can imagine something like this actually existing, waiting to be discovered many fathoms below the ocean...

Faith I (City Cosplay Shooting) by namishion  Faith I
Cool game. Such love. Very gun.
(Ok enough doge shibe, sorry had to do it before it goes away for ever).
I couldn't find an OC per se, but this is an awesome cosplay so close enough. Very eye catching. So shine. Really does deserve one more

Scale teeth..... hmmmm by Cudegar  Scale Teeth
Now this guy has got the groove. Funky  I like his black eyes and his mecha arm thang. I think he is some kind of shark boy- either way, he's off to Atlantis, in search for his missing 5 bucks. What a guy!

Wild Mai Appeared by WolfenAmphithere Mai Rin -
A Wild Mai Appeared! I like this picture mainly because it's pixel art and reminds me of the original Final Fantasy 1 Sprites. Good stuff. Mai is some kind of hawk valkyrie woman- although she's listed as 'metahuman'. I like her epic armour and spiky ears. I reckon there's a 50/50 chance of her swooping down onto a battlefield and either saving you or clawing your eyeballs out.

There's also a character sheet of this OC which is very helpful for understanding more about her (character ref sheets are gooood):

Summery Zoatia by Oteibilitz Zoatia
I think she's a fan character based on the Homestuck webcomic. Still valid, and she's too shiny not to show off here! I love her hair, and that neon green shirt looks so zazzy with the overall colour scheme. Also, horns. Dark looking characters ftw.
Finding her has introduced me to a new webcomic, which is always a good thing. At least, if procrastination is good...

hungry lil devil 7439 by AtomGray Hungry lil Devil
Equal parts cute and creepy, this is one awesome custom made toy! I love his expression and the textures of his skin. Not sure if he's holding a pitchfork or a dinner fork, either way- he looks hungry. Nom.

Happy (belated) New Year everyone! :eager: by darkmoon3636

I've been away visiting family and friends in England for Christmas and New Year, but now I'm BACK and raring to go...

New year's resolutions:
Bullet; Red Get my Comic AND/OR my Ebook out there, published or released online, at least in part, by the end of the year
Bullet; Red Continue to update here more often
Bullet; Red Be less of a perfectionist and just MAKE stuff. (Creating something average is better than nothing at all! :shakefist:)

Perhaps it's because I failed to update here for quite a long time, but I now get around 5% of the comments and interaction that I used to. Or perhaps people are all spending less time on DA. I wish I knew where they all went! Surely not just to Facebook? I really hope DeviantArt is not dying out like Myspace did...

Anyway. Yay for 2014!

Today I'd like to talk about comics. And I would love to hear from all you comic creators out there!

I know loads of you make them (own up), probably all of you read them, comics are goooood no? Me gusta comics. Humpin that leg!
I for one spent an unhealthy chunk of my youth creating comics, instead of going out in the fresh air and getting some good, wholesome exercise and developing normal socialisation skills like the other kids. I enjoyed those days because drawing comics and coming up with characters, the world they live in, the script, the story- well, it's completely immersing.
It's also a heck of a lot of work and the learning curve is steep. I learnt more about drawing and character development in those days than I did in all the years since, including university. I was just so into it.
Then, life got in the way, I travelled, I went to uni, and somehow I ended up working in games (not a bad thing because I love those too and it was fun for a time). But now I'm getting back into comics and find that I'm a bit rusty since..well, it's been so long.

So... yeah. As you may have gathered, I'm thinking of making a comic (Actually, me and the hubster both are- he's prolly gonna be doing the colouring and modelling some of my concepts in 3D, and generally being awesome to help with the whole creative process), and I figured people here would be knowledgable on the subject.

I'd like to hear from other comic readers too- what do you like? What works for you? More importantly, what doesn't work? Characters, styles, setting, format, genre, webcomics vs printed? Anything you have to say about it all's all good!

So far I have my own plans in progress: I have characters down, story is getting there, and format etc is pretty much decided on, but nothing is 100% set in stone yet. I'd be curious to know what people are into and what kind of stuff you'd like to see (then I can say, oh that's great! And just go ahead and do my own thing anyway. Lawl Problem?).

Some inspirational webcomics I can think of:
Wormworld Saga ;
Some printed comics that inspired me over the years: Neil Gaiman's Sandman series, most 2000AD publications, some Marvel comics (especially X-Men, although it's all getting a bit too played out these days), manga such as Death Note, Chobits, old classics like Tintin and Asterix, anything drawn by Adam Hughes, etc.

Feel free to spam me with all your comicy goodness :D
